The name Brioni comes from an island, at the height of Trieste in the Adriatic Sea, where the golf, horse riding and polo elite used to gather. The firm was founded in 1945 when the tailor Nazareno Fonticoli and the entrepreneur Gaetano Savini opened a tailor shop in Rome on the street Barberini which still exists today. Even then, the custom made suits were chosen by the most prestigious men at the time.
